Kuwaiti striker Ahmed Saad Ajab is the undisputed king of Arab scorers following his performance in the Asian qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. His team, however, was eliminated in Round Three.

The Kuwaiti scored six goals, more than every other Arab player. He was beaten to the title of highest overall scorer in the Asian group, though, by Uzbek striker Maxim Shatskikh, who bested him by one goal. Despite that impressive performance, Uzbekistan’s coach sidelined him during their crucial match against Bahrain, which Uzbekistan lost 0-1.

Ajab, 25, began his career playing for Al-Sahel. In 2007, he moved to Al-Qadsia. In January, he accepted a lateral move when he was loaned to the Saudi club Al-Shabab. Now that his contract has run out, he hopes to return to Al-Qadsia, the club that propelled him to stardom.

Thai striker Sarayoot Chaikamdee shares the honour with Ajab for scoring six goals. He finds himself in the same position, as his team also failed to qualify for round four.

The top scorers in the Asian qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup are as follows:

Seven goals: Maxim Shatskikh (Uzbekistan)

Six goals: Ahmed Ajab (Kuwait), Sarayoot Chaikamdee (Thailand)

Five goals: Park Ji-Sung (South Korea), Ziad Shaabu (Syria), Chian Siu Ki (Hong Kong), Ismail Matar (UAE), Sebastian Suria (Qatar)

Four goals: Mahdi Karam (Iraq), Brett Emerton (Australia), Tim Cahill (Australia), Hassan Abd Al-Fattah Mahmoud (Jordan), Kengo Nakamura (Japan), Marcus Tulio Tanaka (Japan), Hong Yong-Jo (North Korea), Javad Nekounam (Iran), Mohamed Ghaddar (Lebanon), Server Djeparov (Uzbekistan), Numondzhon Khakimov (Tajikstan)

How amazing God is. I hope that he will become a professional within the ranks of the Saudi Al-Nasr Club as soon as possible. I would like to commend that player on the Kuwaiti national team. He has shown himself to be a fantastic and tough leader and a smart player. Thank you
