Tribeca Film Festival to be held in Qatar this year

DOHA — As the Doha Tribeca Film Festival approaches, filmmakers and artists in Qatar are saying that they hope to create a regional hub for the film industry in the Gulf state.
The Tribeca Film Festival, founded by popular American actor Robert De Niro immediately after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, provides an artistic forum at which young, independent scriptwriters and directors can showcase their work.
Qatar will host Tribeca this year, the first time the festival will be held outside its birthplace of New York City. A spokesman for the festival confirmed that it will take place in Qatar’s capital, Doha, from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1, with the screening of nearly 30 films.
Festival Executive Director Amanda Palmer told reporters that film critics in the region are particularly looking forward to the reception of Arab and Middle Eastern films screenings at the festival. Eight to ten films will be screened at the festival this year.
She also confirmed that the film festival's website has officially been launched. The Doha Tribeca Film Festival team noted that the site lists the names of the invitees for opening night, film screening times and information on where and how to buy tickets.
Palmer added that the Doha Tribeca Film Festival can help make Qatar a regional hub for artists by promoting an event around which regional filmmakers can congregate.
According to Palmer, "Doha is home to several promising filmmakers, and we can offer them a higher level of engagement and education, including workshops, script-writing assistance and communication with potential investors, producers and distributors."

You cannot post the comments because they incite violence. The festival of Tribeca may be targeting Muslims and antagonizing Islam. In my opinion, if the purpose of the festival was to communicate with writers and artists, that would be good. I am a young writer. I have written a series of stories and screenplays. I hope that I can get to know some artist foundations to collaborate with me and to transform my works into movies and series.
