A wave of anger and condemnation prevailed throughout Iraq in the wake of terrorist bombings that struck a number of Iraqi cities on Monday (May 10th) and in which scores were killed and wounded.

Hundreds of Iraqis on Tuesday descended on Suwayrah, Hilla, Basra, Mosul and Baghdad– where the attacks took place-- to bury the bodies of bombing victims and denounce the attacks.

In Suwayrah, Iraqis buried the bodies of four children younger than 6 years old who were killed during a car bomb explosion driven by a suicide bomber targeting a popular market in the midtown area. Mourners chanted slogans denouncing terrorism and sectarianism and called for unity among Iraqis to confront terrorism.

"I won't rest until I see them all in prison. The cries of this beloved child will burn their bodies while they are still alive," Farid Naji, the uncle of Abbas, a 4-year old child killed in the bombing, said.

"The terrorists have doomed themselves to damnation and death by killing innocent children," Naji added. "May God damn them. We will see their end soon."

In the city of Hilla, Babil province, scores of Iraqi Sunnis and Shias gathered Monday for an emergency meeting at the local council building. They signed a covenant pledging to co-operate with the security forces to combat terrorism in the province and to donate blood to people wounded in these bombings in all Iraqi cities.

Hussain Jassim, a representative of the Babil Democratic Rally, said that "Monday's attacks didn't target the Shias only or the Sunnis. They targeted everyone. Most of the victims were women, children and poor working class Iraqis."

"Even when the citizens went to donate blood, no names were written on blood bags when they went to the hospital," Jassim added. "In this way, the blood of Sunnis and Shias was mixed forever. This is the best response to their attempts to sow discord among Iraqis."

Iraqi government spokesperson Ali al-Dabbagh said in a statement Monday evening that "fingerprints of al-Qaeda are clear on the acts of violence that hit the country today."

"Through these operations, al-Qaeda aims to disrupt the political and security situation in the country, especially in this period when the country is forming the new Iraqi government," al-Dabbagh added.

"I don't believe that these bombings will have an effect on the normal life of Iraqis or will lead to a drop in the security level and the general improvement that Iraqi is now witnessing."

Al-Dabbagh said the ideal solution to end violence in the country "will be through the Iraqi forces that the citizens now trust that they have the ability to arrest perpetrators."

Baghdad Operations Command spokesperson Gen. Qassim Atta said that "the attacks Iraq has witnessed showed the extent of weakness that al-Qaeda suffers now. These bombings won't be the start of new attacks by the terrorists."

Atta added that most of the "cowardly attacks were targeting markets, construction workers and unarmed citizens using malicious, treacherous ways showing their hatred and black thinking. It is a ring in the chain of their last operations, as they are now taking their last breath. It's an expected and hysterical reaction from them to the painful blows that they have been dealt recently."

Parliamentarian Ahmed al-Elwani said that "the attacks are futile and will only boost the unity and solidarity of Iraqis. Now the enemy is one and its goals are clear to everyone: it wants to turn Iraq into a dark night. However, this won't happen."

"The aspirations of the killers were contrary to what they hoped for," he said. "These bombings have enhanced the unity and solidarity of Iraqi sects and gave them strength and determination to continue to expel the terrorists and chase them wherever they are until the last element is eliminated."

Citizens expressed outrage and pointed the finger at al-Qaeda.

"Al-Qaeda has killed children in Fallujah and in Mosul and Basra," said Hajj Farhan Ali, 56, a resident of Fallujah. "They are just a blind killing machine. We have to be just one front and one defensive line against the killers."

Saleh Barakat, 34, said, "al-Qaeda was created to kill people. As for us, we were created to fight them and to rid humanity of them. They have taken the smile off the faces of children and have stolen lives from Iraqi households."

Sabri al-Jaf, a resident of Baghdad, called on the families of the victims to have just one funeral pavilion to receive the mourners

"This is because we're just one family and we all have to be against terrorism," he said. "We hope that the government will calm our anger by killing or arresting them before the blood of victims dries."

Stability of Iraq in recent times, despite frequent terrorist operations, is attributed to the faithful patriots of the Islamic religious scholars in Iraq. They stood as one to confront terrorism and its dirty terrorist acts against the Iraqi people. Most of the operations that the religious scholars waged against Al Qaeda in Iraq would be considered honorable acts. I hail them for these courageous situations. We pray God to have Mercy on all those religious scholars who fell dead. History will remember religious scholars who promised God, as well as Iraqi people to face any oppressors. The terrorist Al Qaeda organization oppressed many innocent citizens.

Terrorism and its supporters in the media, as well as all the agendas behind it, have caused a lot of harm. When it was active, the terrorist thinking was able to disturb the psychological conditions in the Iraqi streets. The Al-Qaeda individuals attacked Shiite clerics and then attacked Sunni clerics. They tried to make people believe that those who attacked the Sunni clerics were Shiites. They used expressions to give that impression. This was the dirty way the terrorists used to ignite sectarian war in Iraq. However, the Iraqis could quickly understand the reality and knew who the beneficiary of these criminal acts was. They managed to understand the aims of terrorism and the reasons why terrorists want Iraqis to fight against each other on sectarian basis. The Iraqis understood that they wanted to weaken Iraq, so they could exist in it, in order to commit their criminal acts and ignite sectarian war. In addition, Sunni and Shiite clergymen played a significant role in clarifying such crimes. They stated that they did not condone such things, and that they understood they had only one enemy who was trying to ignite sectarianism. They directed the Iraqi people to be warned against the seriousness of such things and instructed them not to accuse the Arab Shiites of attacking the Sunni clerics. Iraqis belonging to different religions have lived in peace with each other, none of them has attacked the other throughout history. So, it is clear that there is only one enemy who perpetrates such dirty actions, in order to implement its own agenda on the land of Iraq. All fingers of accusation should point to that enemy. All efforts should be united in order to combat this dangerous enemy that is trying to ignite sectarianism in Iraq by targeting clergymen.

Iraqis have become fully aware of the terrorists’ threat and objectives. Thus, we find that there is great and fruitful cooperation between the Iraqi government and the citizens. In fact, the Security Forces have arrested many wanted terrorists thanks to the remarkable cooperation of citizens, the Security Forces have imposed their control in Baghdad and all the other provinces. Formerly, the Iraqi citizen used to think twice before reporting on the terrorists’ hideouts to the Security Forces. Indeed, terrorists took advantage of the gap between the citizen and the Security Forces. They succeeded in weakening the citizens’ confidence in the strength and capability of the Security Forces. If ever a citizen reported on them, he would not be protected. Thus, the citizen used to hesitate before cooperating with the Security Forces. But now, the honest and fearless Iraqi citizen is a source of information, as trust has been established between the citizens and the Security Forces. Iraqi citizens have realized that the Security Forces are stronger than terrorists, and that they are tracking them down everywhere. Terrorism is being eradicated in Iraq, and the Security Forces are at the service of the citizens. They have sacrificed a great deal to spread peace and security in the capital Baghdad and all over Iraq. Citizens today are playing a significant role in providing information to the Security Forces. Terrorists have been paralyzed. They have become afraid even of leaving their hideouts. However, the Iraqi Security Forces and the government are determined to track them down because of the many crimes they committed against the Iraqi people. They will eradicate them “to the last man” and thus prove to the whole world that Iraq is not a country of terrorism, but a cultivated and conscious country with a great history.

The arrest of the so-called “Wali of Baghdad” and his confessions were broadcast on TV screens. He assumed responsibility for his crimes and the crimes of his followers and explained how many violent killers and destroyers had joined this organization. The “Wali of Baghdad” had a significant impact on the Baghdad branch, which is among the most active branches of Al-Qaeda. It conducted many operations in public areas using booby-trapped cars, explosive belts, improvised explosive devices, murder or assassination and despite all of that, police forces succeeded in arresting the mastermind behind the recent operations, including “Bloody Wednesday” and “Bloody Sunday.” He planned these barbaric attacks which targeted and claimed the lives of many innocents. Along with his followers, he was responsible for their death.

Up until now, the Arab countries’ stance vis-à-vis terrorism is still not clear, despite the fact that Iraq has already started to overcome this scourge, after all the difficulties that it went through. However, the Arab states should try to adopt a clear and straightforward position, because it cannot be that one sees condemnation on TV, but yet everyone knows that they support terrorism. This is so because there are some Arab countries that claim to want the well-being of Iraq, and want Iraq to have peace and stability, when in fact they are the cause behind its destruction, because they help the terrorists, they extend help to them and give them money, and they have also opened terrorist training camps on their soil. So, the position of the Arab countries should be clear, and if they do not want the well-being of Iraq, then Iraq should sever its relations with them. Otherwise, if they are truthful in what they claim, then they should secure their borders with Iraq, or send diplomatic missions and ambassadors, and they should participate in the conferences on rebuilding Iraq, also they should contribute in the development of investments in Iraq, because now Iraq is in need of help from all the brotherly Arab countries. They should not abandon Iraq; these countries have not yet re-established their relations with Iraq as before, seven years or more after the regime in Iraq has changed. Even worse, some countries have not opened their embassies to this day.

The religious clerics’ and scholars’ stance denouncing terrorism and not supporting its ideology and leadership was heroic and honorable. They condemn any assistance and support provided to any member of a terrorist organization. All this was carried out through religious “Fatwas,” which have frightened terrorists, because religious scholars are highly regarded in Iraq by all the Iraqi people. In the same way that terrorists have used fake religious scholars to persuade young people to join their terrorist organization, today true and faithful religious scholars have stood up firmly with their people, their homeland and their religion, in order to reveal the reality of terrorism and its fake Sheikhs. We can say that the terrorists’ scheme has backfired on them.

Let's have a look at the acts of al Qaeda in Iraq since 2003. The terrorists in Iraq committed the most horrendous crimes of genocide, where they targeted all the crowded places of innocent people, such as universities, markets, public places and workplaces, as well as mosques visited by prayers and government institutions. According to the statistics provided by the United Nations, Iraq has lost a lot of people. These bombings and this genocide caused the death and the disability of many people; the number of disabled people in Iraq has significantly increased, and Iraq has become one of the countries that have a high number of disabled people who have lost their future because of the terrorists and their explosions. So, where is the Jihad, O supporters of this inhuman organization?!!!!
