Iran defeats Qatar in Asia Champions Cup 2010

Iran's basketball fans are celebrating a big victory after Mohram won the Asia Champions Cup 2010 final against Qatar's Rayan.

The final was held on Sunday (May 30th), and the Iranian outfit looked confident as it beat Qatar's team 93-73. Mohram held the lead for the entire match.

Also Sunday, Lebanon's Riyadi faced Jordan's Applied Science for third place. The Lebanese giant managed to secure the bronze, narrowly beating the Jordanians 82-78.

Volleyball

Ibtisam was crowned the champion of the Saudi Federation Volleyball Cup 1st Division for 2010. In Wednesday's final (June 2nd), Ibtisam faced off against Riyadh. Both sides were competitive, but the last word was Ibtisam's, which won the final match 3 games to 1 to take the cup and bring joy to many fans.

Handball

Arabi is the champion of the Kuwait Handball Cup 2009/2010 after it won a close 29-24 victory over Kuwait SC on Monday (May 31st). The match was close throughout the contest. But Arabi played faster and stronger and that enabled them to secure the cup.

Football

Egypt's Ahly is one step away from winning the Egypt Cup 2009/2010. The Red Devils qualified for the final after defeating Entag Harby 2-1 on Thursday (June 3rd).

The final will be held Sunday (June 7th) when Ahly faces Haras Hedoud who qualified after beating Ismaily 2-1 on Thursday. The match will not be easy for either side.

Ahly hopes to add more titles to its trophy case after winning the 2009/2010 league. Haras Hedoud doesn't want to end the season empty-handed and is hopes to reward its fans with a championship.

Elsewhere in football, Spain played Saudi Arabia in a friendly on Saturday (May 29th) in Austria. The Saudi team played a well-organised match against the 2008 EURO Cup winners. Although Saudi Arabia lost 3-2, they pressured Spain the entire match.

Italy's Captain Fabio Cannavaro joined UAE Ahli for next season. The World Cup winner and 2006 player of the year will be an important addition to the UAE outfit. The Italian and ex-Juventus superstar plans to defend the World Cup title with Italy as part of Italian Coach Marcello Lippi's 2010 squad in South Africa. The 36 year-old signed a two-year contract with Ahli and will have a new experience in Dubai after an unsuccessful season with Juventus which finished 7th in the Italian league.
