Iran’s foreign minister said Iran would be willing to exchange nuclear material in Turkey, AP reported Friday (December 25th). The UN proposed that Iran send uranium to France and Russia to be enriched, but speaking on state television Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki offered Turkey as an alternative. The remarks are an apparent shift from Iran’s recent position that it would not send uranium out of the country to be enriched. The West needs to show it is trustworthy before Iran would proceed with such a solution, Mottaki said, without elaborating. Turkey welcomed the offer and expressed readiness to reach a solution to the standoff.
