Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh has reached out to al-Qaeda fighters willing to put down their arms, saying "if al-Qaeda puts down their weapons, renounces violence and terrorism and returns to the right path, we will be ready to communicate with them", the Yemen Observer reported Sunday (January 10th). The president spoke during an interview with Abu Dhabi television.
He reiterated his call for a national dialogue, which "is the best way to resolve the country's issues". But he issued a warning to al-Qaeda, saying, "The government is ready to exterminate all members of al-Qaeda that do not immediately denounce their acts and lay down arms."
