Iran reportedly plans to knock three zeroes off its currency to recover its value, Reuters reported Thursday (January 21st). "We are due to remove zeros from the currency because for some reason the rial depreciated and we should bring its real value back," President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad told the semi-official Mehr news agency Wednesday (January 20th). A 1,000 rial note is worth about 10 cents. At the time of the Iranian revolution in 1979, 70 rials equalled a dollar. Today it is around 10,000 rials.

This is a wise political and economic decision, and it is better to cancel the Riyal and use the Toman only. This will save a lot in the long run. We support you, O people of Salman Al-Muhammadi. I think that the apostle might have said that if science were in the sky, some Persian people would have obtained it. The prophet Mohammad has said the truth.

I appreciate your efforts to introduce various Persian, Arabic, and English cultures. It is an incredibly enormous effort, and a necessity for our today’s world and society. This is much needed so we can have a better understanding of each other. I am shocked and fascinated by instant translation function from one language to another in your website. The only shortcoming which I may refer to is the lack of updated News about Iran. Please consider publishing news regarding current events in Iran.

This decision is wise and reasonable towards destroying the wall that is called “hard currency”. Thank you for this brave decision!
