Egypt's national football team defeated Cameroon 3-1 in an African Cup of Nations quarter-final match Monday (January 25th). By beating the Indomitable Lions, the Pharaohs will face Algeria in the CAN semi-finals on Thursday.
Algeria beat Egypt in November to advance to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, but the victory set off violent demonstrations in both countries. Egyptian politicians and celebrities demanded Algeria apologise for the behaviour of its fans after the match which was held in Khartoum, Sudan. Crowds of Algerians also demonstrated outside Egyptian-owned businesses in their country.
