Crimes involving Dubai maids up 20 percent
Crimes involving housemaids in Dubai increased 20 % in 2009, Khaleej Times reported Saturday (February 13th). The 450 incidents include crimes committed by and against maids. Crimes committed by housemaids include theft, adultery, getting pregnant out of wedlock and attempting suicide, according to the General Department of Criminal Investigation. The department's deputy director, Jamal al-Jalaf, called on people employing maids to treat them in a civilized way and urged the public not to hire maids not directly under their sponsorship. Anyone doing so is subject to fines.
