Educated and entrepreneurial Arabs are looking to move out of the Middle East because their home countries hold them back, The National reported Friday (February 26th). The brain drain of Arab citizens looking to open businesses and create jobs pose a threat to Arab economies attempting to develop and modernise, according to a study by the Silatech Index that found that nearly one in three employed Arabs would like to emigrate permanently. Another 17% of the unemployed felt the same.
Silatech partnered with Gallup to poll more than 40,000 15-to-29-year-old Arabs last year. "The young folks that are most educated, most connected and most employed are the ones who want to emigrate more," said Ahmed Younis of the Gallup Centre for Muslim Studies.
