Arabic is one of the few languages lacking a comprehensive format for instructors and students, the Daily Star reported Friday (February 26th). Education expert Adnan al-Amine was speaking at a seminar on the Arabic language held in Beirut last week. He lamented the lack of fixed standards and goals for teaching Arabic throughout a student's career. The seminar was organised to come up with ways for adequately teaching and measuring a student's capacity in Arabic, and was attended by lawmakers as well as UN officials.

"If this opportunity is wasted, it means that our children will not be able to lead and improve their societies in the future as language is the only means of communication between educated people," said Bahia Hariri, an MP and sister of Lebanon Prime Minister, Saad Hariri.
