Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said that former IAEA chief Mohammed ElBaradei is free to run for the presidency of Egypt in 2011 as long as he complies with the Constitution, Al Arabiya reported Friday (March 5th). Mubarak spoke while on an official visit to Germany where the octogenarian ruler is undergoing medical tests.
ElBaradei can join a political party or run as an independent, Mubarak said. But the network quoted analysts as saying that arcane election rules make it nearly impossible to defeat the candidate of the National Democratic Party, whether Mubarak runs again or his son, Gamal, enters the race.
The Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak is one of the most experienced politicians, and he has a charisma that has helped in solving many problems in the Arab world, and he always supported the Arab causes. Despite all the problems that happened under the role of Mubarak, I support his continuing in the office. That is because he knows Egypt well and recognizes its problems better than anyone else does given that he has spent a very long time in office. It is currently better for him to stay in office in the hope that he might serve the country and make a change soon. The Egyptian government works seriously to alleviate the suffering of the citizen. However, the difficult circumstances and increasing population have delayed the solution to many crises. I support Mubarak’s remaining in office, because he is not only the president of Egypt, but he is a famous Arab leader who has an imposing presence.
What did Hosni Mubarak the father give to Egypt, that his son, Gamal, can give if he comes to power and governance in Egypt? The Egyptian people have suffered a lot because of Hosni Mubarak and his unfair dictatorial policies that took Egypt back in all economic, social, military, educational and health aspects, as well as big problems that are facing the Egyptian people today. So I believe that Gamal Mubarak will be no different from his father, because he grew up under this dictatorship, the authoritarian father, who ruled Egypt with an iron fist. If Gamal Mubarak can get to the presidency, I deplore Egypt and its people starting now, because Egypt will be ruined by this person. I have full confidence that Egypt has a lot of people who are capable and qualified to take the responsibility of the presidency in case the dictator Hosni Mubarak is removed from his office. These people are capable of dealing with the problems of Egypt and can rescue it from the bitter reality it is experiencing now, because of the failing policies of Hosni and his ruling party, which is immersed in pleasures at the expense of the Egyptian people’s interest. After all this, I truly believe that Gamal Mubarak is not suitable to become the president of Egypt in the coming phase.
Thank you, thank you.
