A 12-year-old Yemeni girl died of internal bleeding three days after her marriage to a man twice her age, Gulf News reported Thursday (April 8th). Elham Shuee's family did not receive a dowry for their daughter. They conducted what is known in Yemen as a "swap marriage". Elham Shuee was married to her husband while her brother married a girl from the husband's family with no dowries exchanged.
