A prominent Nigerian political figure stands accused of marrying a 13-year-old Egyptian girl but denies he did anything wrong, BBC News reported on Thursday (April 29th). Ahmad Yerima, 49, says his fourth wife is not 13 years old, but declined to provide her actual age.

Yerima, a senator and supporter of Sharia law in Nigeria, said he did not break the law, but added that he would not respect any law that went against his religious beliefs. "I don't care about the issue of age since I have not violated any rules as far as Islam is concerned," Yerima said. Newspapers reported in 2006 that Yerima had married a 15-year-old girl. The Nigerian senate is launching an investigation into the matter.

They are real beasts and they want to satisfy their dirty and suppressed desires through the children. They exploit the greediness of the father and his poverty. You will be doomed to hell, by the permission of Allah the Exalted. The consummation of a marriage with a minor girl is a crime,"rape", backwardness, and evidence of psychological disorders. We have to consider this issue with more attention to find the proper solution. There must be a strict law and severe punishments. Finally, we are eagerly waiting for a decree defining the minimum marriage age… no more sorrowful news. The marriage of minor girls is the destruction of childhood. May Allaah guide all of us.
