Hundreds of workers from unions, the public sector and political opposition groups gathered in downtown Cairo on Sunday (May 2nd) to demand a higher minimum wage, Al Jazeera reported Monday. Shouting slogans such as "we need wages that are enough for a month", demonstrators demanded a raise in a national minimum wage that has been frozen at $6 per month since 1984. It should go up to at least $215 a month, they said.
