After a truce was reached between Yemen's Houthi rebels and the government in February 2010, at least 10 children have been killed in land mine explosions, The National reported Tuesday (June 1st).
An estimated 90% of injuries related to landmines affect children, according to the Seyaj Organization for Childhood Protection, a Yemeni NGO. Seyaj is launching an urgent call to the Yemeni government and international organisations to remove mines in the north and properly treat the injured.
The government "will be responsible for any disabilities these people might incur in the future due to the neglect of their cases now," said Ahmed al-Qureishi, the head of Seyaj.
