Following a visit by Qatari emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to Sanaa, the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels agreed to reinvigorate a truce, wire services reported Wednesday (July 14th).

Qatar mediated two ceasefire agreements between the government and the rebels, first in 2007 and another in 2008. A new truce was signed in February 2010, but has been undermined by skirmishes between the Houthis and government security forces and their tribal allies.

"Good proposals are being carried out today, and more will be implemented tomorrow," Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh said after meeting with Qatar's leader.
