Egyptian archaeologists began searching for buried treasures under water in a lake south of Cairo, AFP reported Wednesday (July 21st).
The dredging of Lake Qarun using divers and radar is the first attempt of its kind in Egypt, said Zahi Hawass, head of Egypt's antiquities department.
It is believed that large basalt rocks at the bottom of the lake may have been used for the construction of the Great Pyramid at Giza. The divers are exploring a seabed that extends 10 kilometres.
