Talks are under way in Doha between Yemeni government representatives and the Houthi rebels in an effort to restore a peace accord compromised by ongoing clashes in the north of Yemen, wire services reported Tuesday (August 24th).
The delegations arrived in the Qatari capital on Sunday and "negotiations are ongoing to put mechanisms in place to apply previous agreements," said a Yemeni official.
"Our other demands include the development and reconstruction of the marginalized provinces of north Yemen, where services, water, roads and schools are lacking," said Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdel Salam.
During a visit to Sanaa in July, Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad al-Thani offered to mediate between the two sides.
