A Saudi woman was allowed to divorce her husband after he violated the terms of their marriage contract by marrying a second woman, Al Arabiya reported Wednesday (March 10th). The woman, who remains unidentified, was married to her husband for 20 years when she discovered he had a second wife. A Jeddah court ruled that the union was rendered invalid because the woman had written into her marriage contract that her future husband should not marry another. "All scholars agree that the conditions in marriage contracts are legitimate and that violating them invalidates the contract," said Abdullah al-Manei of the Council of Senior Scholars.

Is it necessary to inform to an existing wife about a marriage to another woman. At time of first marriage such contracts have any value according to sharia? Are such contracts are valid in the eyes of Islam? A man can marry up to four women. But he should maintain justification. Please clarify the issue with Holy Quran and Hadith.
