Initial results from Sunday's (March 7th) parliamentary elections in Iraq show Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's coalition to be leading in two provinces, Al Jazeera reported Thursday (March 11th). The State of Law alliance is ahead in the mostly Shia provinces of Najaf and Babil, south of Baghdad. Preliminary results for other areas of Iraq are expected to be announced in the coming days. The final tally will take several weeks. Though Maliki predicted victory for his coalition, it is unlikely that any faction will emerge as a decisive winner.
