Jeddah's mayor has ordered the closure of 29 bottled water factories for selling water unfit for humans to drink, the Saudi Gazette reported Thursday (March 11th). The Department of Licensing and Commercial Monitoring found high levels of bacteria in the water due to a string of neglectful practices in the bottling process. Inspectors discovered a lack of safety technicians, carelessness with the bottling specifications and poor hygiene at the facilities. The companies found in breach of safety and hygiene standards face closure until water samples comply with the government's requirements.
