Osama Bin Laden's former driver, Nasser Tailamoun, and a former Guantanamo detainee, Abu Sofian Ben Guemou, were among 37 individuals released from prison in Libya on Tuesday (August 31st).

The release was announced by a foundation run by Seif al-Islam, one of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi's sons. Some of the released prisoners were members of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group. Others were jihadists active with al-Qaeda in Iraq or in North Africa.

The prisoners completed a religious education program that encouraged them to reject extremist ideology. As a condition of their release, the former detainees agreed to stop practicing their extremist ideology and give up violence.

Another 150 inmates will be released soon, AFP reported.
