Egypt's two-megawatt nuclear reactor had to be shut down briefly in April because a cooling pump broke, Mohammed al-Kulali, the head of the Egyptian Nuclear Organization, told Al-Masry Al-Youm Tuesday (September 7th).
The problem was contained and no radiation leaked out, said al-Kulali. Nuclear experts subsequently visited the site and suggested upgrades for the reactor, built nearly 50 years ago.
Al-Kulali blamed the problem on lack of co-ordination between officials and "overconfidence".
