Terrorist infiltrations decline 70% in Iraq
The number of terrorists and suicide bombers attempting to enter Iraq illegally has dropped by 70% over the past two months, Iraqi border guard commander Brig. Gen. Ismail al-Fahdawi told Mawtani.com.
Al-Fahdawi, who commands the border guards in the 2nd district near Syria and Saudi Arabia, said the recently launched security plan to limit terrorist infiltrations into Iraq has proven successful.
The plan involved increasing the number of army and border guard personnel in border cities and villages, and installing surveillance equipment along the Iraqi border.
"The co-operation of residents in towns and villages along the border has helped drop the number of terrorists who enter Iraq," al-Fahdawi said. "This has put al-Qaeda in a difficult situation, represented by the low number of suicide bombers and terrorists and coupled with a record increase in operations carried out by the Iraqi forces inside the country to arrest al-Qaeda members."
Al-Fahdawi expects that Iraqi forces will stop nearly all terrorist infiltrators by the end of this year.
Over the past two months, Iraqi border guard forces arrested 14 suicide bombers, "including seven dangerous leaders of al-Qaeda," al-Fahdawi said.
Security forces also seized 1.5 tons of explosives and a boat that terrorists were using on the Euphrates River to infiltrate Iraq from Syria, and discovered an underground tunnel on the border with Syria.
"The information available to us indicates that members and senior leaders of al-Qaeda are now resorting to reverse migration -- from Iraq to outside the country -- following the crackdown on them during this period and the discovery of most of their extensions and cells in Iraq," al-Fahdawi said.
Deputy Minister of Interior Maj. Gen. Tarik al-Asal said Iraq has achieved major progress recently in combating infiltration attempts and cutting off recruits and financial supplies to al-Qaeda.
"Draining the human and financial sources of terrorism is taking place as per an accurate plan and is achieving major success. Ninety percent of the ways that al-Qaeda uses to infiltrate Iraq have now become known; the gaps have been patched up, the holes have been closed, and the weaknesses that al-Qaeda has been exploiting have been overcome," al-Asal told Mawtani.com.
Aifan al-Issawi, chairman of the Security and Defence Committee in Anbar Provincial Council, said the recent successes have forced al-Qaeda to resort to "booby trapping mentally challenged people and animals or secretly leaving explosives in civilian vehicles and then detonating them remotely".

Among the most important reasons for the decrease in the cases of infiltration lately to Iraq are the successive blows that the al-Qaeda organization and terrorists have received. This is due to the development which Iraq has fulfilled in the security field and the state control over all Iraqi regions. In fact, Iraq has managed to eradicate many of the terrorist groups and arrest many terrorists and icons of heinous crime among the terrorists of al-Qaeda. Consequently, these security achievements have resulted in decreasing the cases of terrorists sneaking into Iraq, arresting them and putting them in prison, so that they will get their just reward from the Iraqi judiciary.

The behavior of the sheikhs of Al-Qaeda is shameful and terrorist, because whoever incites terrorism is a terrorist, and they urge the members of Al-Qaeda to commit such criminal acts, in order to get rid of them before they change their mind, and in order to kill the largest possible number of citizens. Hence, these acts only aim at spreading terror and fear among the innocent citizens, who want nothing but to live peacefully and happily. Hence, these fatwas are prohibited by God the Almighty and the Prophet, peace be upon him. We all know that committing suicide is prohibited and the suicide bomber will go to hell. This is the commandment of God the Almighty, so how can they violate the commandments of the Lord, while they allege that they are religious scholars. However, they in fact have secret purposes and hidden hands, because they want to destroy Islam and show the whole world that it is the religion of killing and slaughter. They also want to end the presence of Islam all over the world, by killing the Muslims. Nevertheless, they will not succeed, because God the Exalted is the strongest, and He will destroy them. They consider that the suicide attacks entitle one to a greater reward than the other terrorist operations. These fatwas prove their brutality, because they recommend suicide attacks. These fatwas also increase the destruction in the Arab and Muslim countries. We have to face these sectarian and takfiri thoughts, especially the scholars. Such people must be prevented from issuing such fatwas, which tarnish the image of Islam and Muslims all over the world.
