Jordan’s King Abdullah has pardoned a student who allegedly wrote a poem critical of the monarch along with 18 other prisoners, Ammon News reported Thursday (September 9th).
Irbid University student Hatim al-Shuli was arrested on July 25th and charged with causing national strife, a crime that could result in a sentence of one to three years in prison.
Al-Shuli denies writing a poem critical of the king. The decision comes eight days after Human Rights Watch called for al-Shuli's release.
